Lesson 4 -- The Bible's sufficiency and reliability

All we get

The Bible contains the final message from God that the world will ever receive!

The world is full of people claiming to have received further revelation from God. Mohammed, the founder of Islam, claimed it. Joseph Smith, the founder of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, claimed it. Many television evangelists claim it. Several years ago, Jim Jones claimed it -- and thus led 900 followers to commit suicide in Guyana, South America. Many heinous deeds are done by people who claim that God told them to act in a certain way.

So many people claim to be spokespersons for God. It's confusing! But the Bible assures us that when it was completed, that God would give no further revelations. Galatians 1:8-9 says, "But even if we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel to you than what we have preached to you, let him be accursed. As we have said before, so now I say again, if anyone preaches any other gospel to you than what you have received, let him be accursed." God will not update His message! Jude 3 emphasizes this by saying, "I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints." That is, the body of faith, which is revealed in the New Testament, was once delivered.
