Lesson 4 -- The Bible's sufficiency and reliability

Understandable

Not only is the Bible God's word, but it is also understandable. You and I can understand it! Ephesians 3:3-4 says, "He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already, by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery of Christ)." And Jesus said in John 8:31-32, "If you can abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." If people couldn't understand the word of God (which John 17:17 calls "the Truth"), then it would be impossible to (a) abide in the words of Christ, and (b) know the truth that makes you free.

Don't let anyone tell you that you can't understand the Bible. Anyone who tells you that either believes you should depend upon some church, organization, or person to know God's will -- or doesn't want you to know God's will. God says TO YOU, "Do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is" (Ephesians 5:17).

YOU can read and understand the Bible.

You need not depend on the church to dispense understanding to you.

You need not rely on some clergy class to explain the Bible to you.

God has given the world His word so we can know Him. He has not revealed His word to hide Himself from creation. And God speaks to mankind only through the Scriptures.
