Christ expects us to worship God.
One of the most wonderful blessings of being a
Christian is the opportunity to gather with other Christians to
worship God. After all, Jesus died for our sins and saved us from an
eternally lost condition. Why wouldn't we want to worship Him?
But how to worship? Many people use their own ideas
of how to worship God. But the Bible tells us how God wants to be
worshipped. John 4:24 says that God must be worshipped "in
spirit and truth." Spirit means an attitude of joy,
enthusiasm, and zeal. It also carries with it an idea of keeping
with God's nature. Because God is Spirit, our worship is to be
spiritual. Truth means in keeping with God's word. 1 Corinthians
14:40 says that everything should be done "decently and in
order." This refers not only to the attitude everyone should
have during worship, but also to the way in which the worship period
is conducted. Ecclesiastes 5:1 says, "Walk prudently when you
go to the house of God; and draw near to hear rather than to give
the sacrifice of fools, for they do not know that they do evil."
Worship before God is to be both respectful and reverential. |
