Four elders appointed at Traders Point 6-Nov-2007 After a process lasting several months, the long anticipated installation of elders took place following a Sunday evening service October 28. Brian Anderson, Traders Point evangelist, presented many lessons on the qualifications of elders as well as the responsibilities expected of both the elders themselves and the local church that they are to oversee. The opportunity was given to the congregation to make suggestions on those men who were felt to be qualified. Out of eight or nine men's names that were brought forward, four were eventually determined to meet the qualifications as outlined in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9. These same four men were ones who stepped forward and expressed a willingness to serve as shepherds to lead the flock who worship at this location. The church here has grown to 158 members and typically has a Sunday morning attendance near 200. The spiritual need to be organized as God would have a local body of believers to be, has long been a desire of the brethren who meet here. A short business meeting was held September 23 during which Brian requested permission to put forth four men's names the following Sunday for consideration as elders. Keith Corder, Ted Stauffer, Kevin Stockton and Morgan Tharp were the names presented to the congregation Sunday evening September 30. The congregation enthusiastically took the opportunity to meet with these men on numerous occasions during the following four weeks to question them regarding their qualifications and desire to serve the church at Traders Point. They cordially answered those questions and emphasized their desire to use their abilities to serve the Lord and the church here as overseers and to see that the Lord was glorified in the work God would desire us to do. From those meetings it was determined that these men take very seriously the charge that they are to watch for our souls, realizing that they will one day give an account before the Creator of the universe. We look forward to serving together with these men to see the church here grow both spiritually and numerically for many years to come.
Obey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls, as those who must give account." -- Heb. 13:17 A history of those men who have served the church at Traders Point in the past can be found here.
