- Introduction
- When facing Jesus, Pilate was left to ask the question... (Mk. 15:12)
- When facing the saving power of the Gospel, the truth of Jesus in His word, how will you respond to that same question? (Mk. 4:3-20)
- Four Possible Responses to the Word of the Lord:
- Hard-hearted Hearers (v. 15)
- These do "not understand it" (Mt. 13:19), its importance / power.
- "so that they will not believe and be saved " (Lk. 8:122).
- Smooth-sailing Servants (v. 16-17)
- "they have no firm root in themselves, but are only temporary "
- "when affliction or persecution arises because of the word, immediately they fall away "
- Distracted Disciples (v. 18-19)
- "the worries of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it becomes unfruitful."
- Fruitful Followers (v. 20)
- "the ones who have heard the word in an honest and good heart, and hold fast, and bear fruit with perseverance" (Lk. 8:15)
- What is your soil? What will you do with Jesus?
- The imperative is real, and choice must be made...
- And that choice is yours and yours alone. (Rom. 14:12; 2 Cor. 5:10)
