- "How blessed is the man who..." (v. 1-3)
- First, negatively...
- "Does not walk in the counsel of the wicked "
- "Nor stand in the path of sinners "
- "Nor sit in the seat of scoffers "
- On the other hand, positively... (v.2)
- "His delight is in the law of the Lord" (cf. Jer. 15:16)
- "In His law he meditates day and night" (cf. Ps. 19; 119)
- The end thereof... (v.3)
- "He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water" - strength and stability
- "Which yields its fruit in its season" - fruitfulness
- "And in whatever he does, he prospers " - prosperity (Mt. 5:3-12)
- "The wicked are not so..." (v. 4-5)
- "They are like chaff which the wind drives away" (v. 4; cf. Mt. 3:12) - worthlessness, impermanence, disposable
- "The wicked will not stand in the judgement" (v. 5) - condemnation, whether in the temporal or eternal sense
- "Nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous" (v. 5) - temporal or eternal separation from the righteous
- Conclusion
- "The LORD knows the way of the righteous..."
- "But the way of the wicked will perish. " (cf. Mt. 7:21-23)
- Ours to choose... (Dt. 30:15; Josh. 24:15; Mt. 7:21-23)
- God wants your happiness, but more your holiness, because only holiness leads to lasting happiness!
