A Message of Hope

1. Introduction (Lk. 15:1-3)
   • The value of hope...
     • Jesus' enemies would take from sinners (v.2)
     • But Jesus offered it in abundance! (v. 4-10)
     • Perhaps the imagery is lost in our shepherdless and affluent culture...
   • But we can all relate to the prodigal... (v. 11-32)
2. My hope is NOT about perfection (v.18)
   • The Lord's requirements are clear... (Eph. 1:3, 12; Heb. 5:9; 1 Jn 1:5-7)
   • But... (Rom. 3:9-18,23; Eph 2:8-9)
3. My hope IS about coming back in humility and penitence (v. 17-21; Mt. 5:3-5; James 4:6-10)
4. My hope is NOT about justice. (v. 19a, 21b)
5. My hope IS about the merciful character and provisions of God. (v. 20-24; 2 Pet. 1:3; 1 Cor. 2:10; Heb 10:23; Rom. 5:6-11; 1 Tim. 1:1; 2 Pet. 3:9)
6. My hope IS about rejoicing! (v. 22-27,32, 7,10; Acts 2:41-47a; 8:38-39; 16:33-34)
7. Conclusion
   • Spiritual hope and joy are reserved for...
     • Those who are in Christ (Gal 3:27; Rom 6:3)
     • Those who "walk in the Light" (1 Jn. 1:5-7)
     • Those who will confess & return (1 Jn. 1:8-10)
   • Are you among those who can enjoy hope and joy?
