- Introduction
- Some insist that it is impossible for us to all understand the Bible alike....
- But God says we can understand! (Eph. 3:4; 5:17; cf 1 Cor. 14:33)
- The problem: "the untaught and unstable distort... the Scriptures" (2 Pet. 3:16)
- How to accomplish this? (Acts 15:1-29)
- "Accurately handling the word of truth" means...
- Seeing what God shows us
- Acts 15:7-9 -- the events of Acts 10 (cf. 11:4-15)
- Acts: 15:12 -- Iconium (14:3), Lystra (14:8-10)
- Hearing what God tells us
- Acts 15:13-18 -- taken from Amos 9:11-12
- cf. Acts 11:16
- Considering what God implies to us.
- Acts 15:10-11 (cf. 10:28b, 34-35, 47-48; 11:17-18)
- Acts 15:19,24-29
- Respecting when God says nothing.
- Acts 15:24 -- "to whom we gave no instruction"
- cf. Leviticus 10:1, Hebrews 1:5;7:14
- Conclusion
- These principles are fundamental to all human communication -- vocational, familial, legal, etc.
- By applying these same means, we can...
- "accurately handle the word..." (2 Tim. 2:15)
- "Understand... the will of the Lord" (Eph 5:17)
